Calculating the final mark

Pass requirements

A mother subject is made up of individual modules. You must pass each  individual module in order to pass the mother subject. See final mark calculation criteria.

Pass mark for each module: 50%

Pass mark for mother subject: 50%

You must obtain a subminimum of 40% in the exam order to pass a particular module.

Exam admission requirements

For theory modules, you must obtain a class mark of at least 40%.

For practical modules, you must obtain a class mark of at least 50%.

Final mark calculation criteria

For theory modules, the final mark for that module is calculated as follows:

40% of class mark +60% of exam mark

 

For practical modules, the final mark for that module is calculated as follows:

60% of class mark + 40% of exam mark

 

For each mother subject, the final mark is calculated as follows:

CHI22MO: 70% of final mark for CHI22T2
30% of final mark for CHI22P2
100%

 

CHI32MO:

35% of final mark for CHI32T1
35% of final mark for CHI32T2
30% of final mark for CHI32P1
100%

 

CHI411O:

50% of final mark for CHI4111
50% of final mark for CHI4112
100%

Requirements for supplementary exams

Admission

You will qualify for a supplementary exam in a module if you comply with the following conditions:

A class mark of at least 50% and an exam mark of at least 40%

or

a class mark of at least 40% and an exam mark of at least 50%.

If you only need one subject towards attaining your diploma or degree and you do not qualify for a supplementary exam in that module in terms of the above regulations, a special supplementary exam shall be granted in that module, on condition that you obtained a final mark of at least 40% in the exam immediately preceding the special supplementary exam.

Calculating the final mark

The class mark and the supplementary exam mark are used to calculate the final mark in the same ratios as specified above.

A final mark of not more than 50% may be allocated in the supplementary exam.

If you do not obtain a final mark of at least 50% in the supplementary exam you must re-register for that subject.
