A discrepant event is an event that is atypical, unusual, or in which there is an inconsistency between what can reasonably be expected to happen and what is depicted as happening. It can be done through a guided demonstration or through a pictorial riddle. Use convergent questions initially to guide learners observations and to assess what they see, feel, or know about the elements of the event. To broaden and deepen your students responses and involve them in creative and critical thinking, ask divergent questions. Many of these questions guide students in discovering things for themselves, help them to see interrelationships, and make hypotheses or draw conclusions from data. Step-by-step Procedure Select a concept or principles to be learned or discussed. Draw a picture, using an illustration, or utilizing existing photos that demonstrates a concept, process, or situation. Formulate convergent and divergent process-oriented questions to stimulate students thinking about the subject, unveiling their preconceptions of the topic, and setting the intellectual stage for further investigations. Discuss and record the responses. |
